Saptari : The 15-year-old scientist and inventor has become Time magazine’s first ‘Kid of the Year’.

Gitanjali Rao, a 15-year-old from Denver, Colorado, has been named the ‘Kid of the Year’ by Time Magazine, which started this year.

Gitanjali had made a device to detect the chemical element ‘lead’ in drinking water. He has also developed apps and software to detect cyber bullying.

She was in the last five out of 5,000 nominated in this constituency.
The committee comprising comedian and television presenter Trevor Noah chose Gitanjali as the Kid of the Year from the last five.

All those in the last five, including Gitanjali, will be honored next Friday at Noah’s The Daily Show.

‘I don’t look like any other scientist. “Scientists on TV are old and white people,” Gitanjali said in an interview with Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie.

She added, “So I want to give the message – if I can, anyone can do it.”

Times Magazine has been announcing Man of the Year since 1927. He was later changed to Person of the Year.

Last year, climate engineer Greta Thunberg became the youngest person to be named Person of the Year. She was 16 years old at the time.
