Saptari – The Metropolitan Traffic Police has deployed a ‘Traffic Surveillance Vehicle’ (van) to monitor and take action against vehicles violating traffic rules in the absence of the traffic police.
Chief of the Division, SSP Janak Bhattarai said that the branch has been operating a ‘Surveillance Vehicle’ since Sunday to manage the traffic on the busy roads of the valley and control the high speed A CCTV camera mounted on the roof of a microbus-sized surveillance van can capture up to 200 meters of footage, the department said. Spokesperson of the Division, SP Shyam Krishna Adhikari, said that the van will monitor the areas where there is heavy traffic and traffic violations during peak hours.The five traffic policemen deployed in the van have installed technology to regulate daily traffic and capture road activities in video and photos. It is expected to assist in traffic management and help drivers take action with evidence and raise more awareness, the department said.Similarly, the branch has honored 18 traffic policemen who returned bribes without falling into financial temptation while conducting traffic operations. Spokesperson SP Adhikari said that the traffic police personnel have been honored by arresting the drivers who tried to tempt the traffic police by bribing them while taking action against the drivers violating the traffic rules.
According to the department, 69 drivers who tried to bribe the traffic police during the recent traffic operation have been arrested and 53 traffic policemen have been rewarded and honored.
